Avoid Farming Where You Live
May 15, 2023I tell new agents, avoid farming where you live
If you farm where you live, you must always be “on.” Farming where you live leaves no room for days off in the sense that you’re always in character as “the agent.” You always have to be on your A-game even when as a human you need time off from your “game.” You need days when you can go to the local Starbucks or gas station without looking your best or without being ready to talk business.
Familiarity is great until you get too much of it. This is something to weigh carefully. Farming where you live is similar to putting your face on your car. For me, that’s a hard no. When I farmed where I lived, the division of my personal and business life disintegrated. As I’ve already talked about, that hinders your overall game on so many levels. I couldn't get coffee, get gas, or walk my dog without thinking about my real estate game. I quickly re-strategized to farming away from my neighborhood.
Pick farming areas that are far enough away from your day-to-day personal life. Maintain that sense of separation.
