Chase Personal Goals
Apr 15, 2023The Second General Strategy: Chase Your Personal Goals to Level Up
I just explained that a pitfall in the game is caring too much for others. Well, another pitfall is not working for anything. Most people are just working for the sake of working. Think about it. Most people are following the crowd and not working for anything other than pleasing others. They’re told to get that house, that picket fence, that dog. They’re told to make more money, to keep up with their neighbors, the Jones. These goals aren’t theirs. They’re not encouraged to create their personal dreams or goals because doing so means stepping out of the box. They may have even forgotten how to chase their personal goals. They only know how to live for other people's goals.
Ask yourself this. Up until now, have you been just working or working for something? There’s a huge difference, and it’s what makes or breaks you in this game.
Not actively working for something leaves you exhausted and unfulfilled. If you are just working, you’re likely chasing something other than your dreams. When you don’t have personal goals, you don’t have a purpose and something that will fulfill you. Without this, you’ll forever feel like something is off. Chasing what you are told to chase leaves you misaligned and drained.
Working without personal goals makes no sense to me. When you add gamification to your life, it won’t make sense to you either. When you switch your thinking to gamification, you are always chasing personal goals to level up.
When we are children, we’re told to chase our goals. We’re asked what we want to do. And we’re excited about dreaming and sharing our goals, no matter how big they are. It’s time to get back to that! You are meant to grow and dream. You are meant to build yourself up. You’re meant to chase your personal goals. You are meant to have your personal definition of success. You are not meant to chase someone else’s. You're meant to achieve a success that is unique to you.
The only way to pass levels is to chase personal goals, not those given to you by society or someone else.
I count my lucky stars every day that I figured this out early! But that’s not most people. This is a major reason most people aren’t leveling up in life.
The problem is, it might have been a long time since you lived for your personal goals. You don't even know what’s possible anymore. You’re numb from chasing other people’s goals. You don’t know what it feels like to create and chase your own. You’ve probably forgotten how good it feels.
Think about this analogy. It's as if you have become accustomed to eating junk food. You’ve been eating it so long, you forget what it feels like to eat anything else. It might even be making you sick but you have no reference point anymore. You’ve become numb to its effects. Then, one day, you have a healthy meal and suddenly feel amazing. It’s an entirely new experience for you. You’d forgotten it was possible to feel so good!
Chasing only the goals society feeds you is like feeding yourself a steady diet of junk food. Ew, right? Gamification gives you back the reference point of what it feels like to chase your personal goals!
Gaining a personal sense of accomplishments is key to feeling fulfilled. And I want you to win and feel accomplished! Almost nothing beats the feeling of passing levels and earning something after working for it. Chasing your personal career goals with gamification is the ultimate cure after feeling empty from chasing society’s goals!
