Habit 2: Harvest Calmness
Apr 30, 2023The next perspective shift is to Cultivate Calmness in place of Stress
When you interpret something as stressful, it is not just your mind that feels it. Your body can go into a sort of fight or flight reaction mode. Your body is fighting whatever is causing the stress. When you start thinking about something as potentially stressful, it will immediately begin to impact you. Your body goes into a sort of alarm mode as it directs energy into trying to protect you. What actually happens is the opposite. It throws you off. You probably have had moments in your life when stress or nerves kicked in and you felt unwell. Your stomach became upset. You got a headache. Or your palms started getting sweaty. The bottom line is that none of this is good for you or your game.
The way to avoid this is to not take rejection too seriously. Knowing that something stressful is going to come up in your day or your interactions helps you steer away from fight or flight responses. Accept rejection rather than fighting it. This is one the most important things you can do to manage rejection emotionally and physically. You don’t want rejection to interfere with your game on any levels. You want to stay calm and strong, in body and mind.
Your ability to manage the stress of rejection will build the more you face it. With time, it will no longer have the same effect on you. In the next lesson, I will teach you a micro-exposure technique that will help you cultivate calmness in the face of rejection.
The last perspective shift is to Treat Rejection as a Learning Opportunity
As I keep mentioning, rejection is part of the real estate job. Mentally strong agents understand that rejection is not about failing but rather about the lessons you can gain from it. Rejection is also a part of putting yourself out there.
Without rejection, you can’t learn as much or get as strong in your game. When you think of rejection this way, you may even start to welcome rejection as a learning opportunity. And adopting this attitude keeps you moving forward in your game.
When you use this perspective, you are able to transform every rejection into an opportunity for personal development. Use each rejection to get stronger, better, faster, and more confident in all aspects of your game.
A strong agent always asks themselves, "What did I get out of this?" or “What did this teach me?”
You will be astonished at how strong you become as you face NOs in this work. I have learned so much from rejection at the door. And I have become a stronger agent than I ever thought possible. It’s empowered me to learn more about all aspects of my real estate business.
As you continue to inspire yourself forward in your door knocking, you will see how much you can learn and grow from rejection as well. If you are truly serious about leveling up your real estate career, you will learn to win at every door. That’s because it is a win whenever you are using an experience to learn and grow. Closed doors and NOs provide winning opportunities for growth. It won’t be long before you begin to appreciate how much strength you are gaining from it all.
I’ve included another exercise to help you work through this idea of learning from rejection. Before you move onto the next video, take a moment to print it along with the other exercises. Doing these exercises will help you get in the right mindset to continue in the door knocking game.
