Hustling in Your Game
Apr 16, 2023The Fourth and Last General Strategy: Hustle in Your Game
I recently read a quote by Elon Musk where he said you need to figure out how to do your 10-year plan in six months. This really resonated with me. You can create plans that help you speed up the levels in your game. And hustling in your game is condensing your plan to achieve goals in a shorter amount of time and to level up faster.
You might not have exact control of how long it will take. Remember, I did mention earlier that you need patience in this game. However, you can push yourself and accelerate your plans. No matter when you reach your goals, you’ll arrive at them sooner than if you hadn’t pushed yourself. And why wouldn’t you want that?
Hustling towards your goals is a great thing. Hustle gets a bad rap and a lot of people argue that you should embrace the opposite, YOLO (You Only Live Once). I am completely averse to YOLO culture.
To me, YOLO is a very dangerous way to play the game. There’s a LOT of risk associated with this approach. It is an expensive way to live. Not because of what you are spending. But because of what you are losing – time in your game. Time to put work in on the front end, so you can reap rewards on the back end. It's so much easier if you do the work on the front end. If you wait or work slower because of YOLO, you'll stress later. There will be less time for you to achieve your personal goals.
Remember when I said that there’s few people at the top and it gets easier when you’re there? Well, YOLO is another reason people don’t get there. It’s why people drop off early. They don’t have the endurance to put in the work because they’d rather go off and have other experiences. The route to the bigger goal is too long so they take a different YOLO route that doesn’t lead to their goals.
YOLO doesn’t support long-term success in the real estate game.
If you want to reach your personal revenue goals and have balanced life long-term, you need to work in the beginning without giving up. When you have enough resources and systems built, all of that can support your longer game. When money is flowing steadily in your game, you can relax more. Until then, you have to hustle.
You want to get your game in order early. The sooner you do this, the easier your game becomes. If you want to win long-term, you must do the work now. There isn’t time for YOLO. Declare your goals. Build your character stats. Gather and expand your resources. Follow the strategies. And do the work!
My game approach is always to do the work NOW. To use a bike riding analogy, when you start early, the hill you have to climb isn’t as big. You won’t have to ride uphill for as long. When you get to the top, the downhill ride is a breeze as your pipeline of clients is set up and paying you back. The alternative is to choose YOLO and take the longer, bigger hill. You’ll ride that hill longer and slower, possibly the rest of your career. You may never reach the top. You’ll always be working and may never gain enough momentum for a pipeline to start paying you back effortlessly.
To me, riding uphill for life is not an attractive scenario. I don’t think you want that either.
My general game strategy is about putting work in on the front end where it's easier. It's easier on the body, physically and mentally, and it ultimately requires less energy. YEARS less energy. The more you work to build your empire NOW, the less you’ll work later. That is the better order of things. Work while you’re young enough, healthy, and have stamina!
The bottom line is, hustling is about getting everything set up so it can work FOR you. It’s about becoming an ultra powerful, productive, and aligned real estate agent. It’s about working hard to develop all the routines and strategies that will set you up for success. Get stuff done NOW that will serve you later. To me, that’s the purpose and meaning of hustle. And nothing about that is bad.
Also, working hard does NOT mean missing out on living. It rewards you with living more of your life when you have your career built strong. You are simply giving your time and energy now so you can have more freedom with your time later. That’s a worthy short-term sacrifice. And I want you to experience those rewards. I want you to achieve the life you want. I want your life to have freedom, options, and opportunities. I want you to wake up excited by the fact that your work today is for bringing your long-term goals within reach.
With the right focus, you’ll set yourself up for long-term success. But you can't just expect everything to come to you. To set up that long term success, you must put in the time and work hard on setting things up. Throughout all the modules in this course, I’ll show you how and where to put in the work.
Are you ready to put in the work now? Are you brave enough to sacrifice time living in the YOLO moment in order to set up serious rewards for later?
As we end this video, I encourage you to reflect on all of the general strategies I’ve just gone over. I want you to really think about the following:
Are you putting yourself first?
Are you chasing your own goals?
Is it motivation or inspiration that is driving your actions?
Are you making any YOLO decisions instead of putting in the work?
There’s an exercise included in the downloads for this section.
