Intro to Rejection
Apr 28, 2023Real estate agents deal with rejection daily. You might even consider it a workplace hazard. When door knocking, you’ll face it again and again, door after door.
It doesn’t matter who you are or what you say, it's inevitable that you will be turned down at many doors. You can not expect every door to want to talk to you. And even fewer will be interested in listing. Not everyone needs or wants to sell. Remember, real estate and door knocking is a numbers game. As an agent, you simply need to learn how to handle that fact and keep on going.
You might think rejection is a bad thing and that it slows you down in your game. That’s actually not true. You might also think rejection is a hurdle in the game. That’s also not true. Rejection itself is not a hurdle. What is a hurdle? Your fear of rejection or your inability to handle it.
You have to learn to handle rejection.
When you learn to handle rejection with grace and the right mindset, it won’t slow you down in your game. Rejection can be an opportunity to learn. You can use it to become even stronger in your game.
Overall, rejection helps you advance in your game. Every “NO” at the door keeps you moving forward. You have to face the “NOs” to get to any “YESes.”
You just have to train your mind to accept it as normal. You have to train your mind not to worry about it. It’s a matter of building an immunity to it. This can be done with practice and a few mindset shifts. Some agents say it doesn’t affect them, but that’s usually because somewhere they’ve already trained their minds to accept rejection.
Overall, it's crucial that you become comfortable with rejection. It will always be part of this game. When you are able to move through it with grace and acceptance, you will also make your way to even wins in the game.
