Introduction To Scripts
May 26, 2023Script or No Script? In this module, that is a very important question. This module teaches you what to say in various situations and uses the word “script.” However, I don’t want you to take the idea of using “script” too literally. The scripts here are meant to be more of a guideline. They help you get to know what to say at the door. They help you start or steer a conversation. However, it's more important to match what you say to a specific situation. You will need to read the interaction and adapt. Remember, your advantage at the door is that you have that immediate feedback loop. You are face-to-face with your prospect. You can take all of that feedback into consideration when you talk with them. You should consider what they are saying to you and their body language.
When you are at the door, you want to genuinely engage with your prospect. If you become too focused on a specific script, you will lose focus on the person at the door. It will show that you aren’t really listening or paying attention to them. You don’t want that to happen. You also don’t want to sound like you are reciting a memorized script. Remember that your goal is to build connections and nurture relationships. That requires true two-way communication. You can’t build connections when you are reciting lines.
The bottom line is that I want you to use this module as merely a guideline. It is not about having memorized lines. None of what you say should be fixed.
Don’t worry though. I’m confident that the more you knock, the better you’ll get at naturally knowing what to say. You will also get better at naturally and genuinely responding to objections in each situation. You will become familiar with the types of questions people ask you at the door. Overall, you will gain more confidence that will be reflected in your results. You will get better at warming up cold contacts in your farming zone.
