Pitfall to Avoid: Becoming a Spectator
Apr 11, 2023Why Exactly Am I Telling You to Gamify Real Estate?
Avoid this pitfall in the game
It's so easy to get stuck in the trap of spectating.
You're spectating or consuming other people's wins when you're scrolling social media or watching Netflix.
The problem is that spectating takes time out of your personal game, it's becoming a spectator instead of a participant.
First, let's define each one and I'll explain what a participant is:
According to the Oxford dictionary, it is a person who takes part in or becomes involved in a particular activity. What is a spectator according to the Oxford dictionary, it is a person who watches at a show or other event, especially a sports event. In your real estate game, you always want to be a participant, not a spectator.
I'm sure you've heard the quote, build your dream or others will hire you to build theirs. That reflects the same idea. You want to work for your personal dreams, not watch someone else go after theirs. Whenever you are watching other people when you are not working on your own personal wins.
Don't get trapped, observing others around you while you stay on the sidelines or up in the bleachers.
You can't be on the field and up in the bleachers at the same time. You want to always stay on the field. Always when you are busy watching others you are using your time to build your personal game.
This is a hard pill to swallow, but it's true. And it's why social media and Netflix binging has the potential to leave you feeling so empty?
While consuming it you are feeding your energy into it instead of doing work in your own life. That same energy would have been better used to make moves that help you reach your personal wins and fulfillment watching others win. Also the pitfall of reminding you of your lack of wins, you might fall into a comparison trap. Doing that almost always makes you feel empty.
All around watching others instead of doing your own work is a poor use of energy. It actually depletes your energy, and it takes away your valuable time that would be better applied to making moves in your game. I am not saying that social media or Netflix is evil, and I'm not telling you to not interact with them at all. I still use both social media may even be how you found me. I am simply telling you like it is.
I want you to see the factors at play so that you can adjust your strategy accordingly. I want you to make winning moves and spectating or consuming instead of acting is something that can severely impact your ability to succeed in your game. The more awareness you have, the less you will get sucked into being a spectator to help you understand the value of how you are applying your time and energy. I suggest doing a cost benefit analysis. You are going to learn more about time and energy cost benefit analysis later in this course. It's something that can be applied to a lot of arenas in the game, you'll find a starter exercise in the downloads that you can use to review how you spend your time or energy spectating versus participating in your game. When you start applying strategies and steps you learn in this course you will notice yourself move more and more from being a spectator to a participant. It is time for you to take back your power and ensure that you are always a participant.
