Real estate is not as tricky as you may think. The steps to becoming a successful agent haven't really changed. Technology in real estate may have evolved but the fundamentals of how to become a successful agent haven’t. It doesn’t matter how technologically savvy you are, you need leads. So to become a successful agent, you need to become a master at prospecting new leads.  

In the beginning, everyone who gets into real estate has the same AHA moment. They think they can do it better. They try all sorts of ‘new’ tactics to prospect before failing. They then fall back on the basics that work. Real estate is not a place to reinvent the wheel. The way to get ahead in this game is to do what’s always been done and what’s always worked. And the prospecting fundamentals that work for successful agents include door knocking.

I get it though, you  are new and eager. You watch Selling Sunset. You watch Million Dollar Listings. You did your part. You went to real estate school. You passed the exam. And now you are ready to go after it. You want to list those luxury homes, get big paychecks, and drive fancy vehicles just like the agents you’ve watched on television. Those shows highlight that when you win in the real estate game, you win large. But those shows don’t show you the work that goes into rising to that level.  

I am here to tell you that you can get to that level too. All of that is possible in real life. But you get there by doing the work. Yes, you have much more work to do. Passing the exam was just the beginning. To achieve your personal goals, you must face reality. And that’s something very different than the curated reality you have been watching on television. 

As a top producer, there’s one thing I know to be true. Anyone sitting at the top deserves their place there. Every top producer paid a price in the beginning. They got up and did their part. They door-knocked until their feet bled or dialed until their phone died. They went out and made it happen. If you want to arrive at that top stop, the spot you’ve been dreaming about ever since you first watched those reality shows, you need to step into your game and do your work.  Now it’s time to play the game to pass your levels.  

The number one common denominator of all successful agents is that they did the things others didn’t want to do. Because guess what? At the end of the day, anyone who looks talented in real estate is just skilled in the game. The agents at the top aren’t necessarily the smartest or the most charismatic. They’re the ones who are most skilled at what matters in the game
