There are several steps in the preparation process.

What to prepare before door knocking:

-- Your Material Box

-- Your Appearance / Clothing

-- Your Response to Stereotypes

-- Your Mindset (possibly the most important thing of all!)

 – Your Standards 

 I’ll go through them one by one for you here. And don’t worry, there will be a checklist for you to download at the end to help you remember it all. 

First, you need to think about your Materials Box

There are several ways to carry your door knocking materials. Trust me when I say the simplest way is to carry a box. I’ve researched, tested, and tried it all! Also, choose a box that’s not too heavy or you will not be able to knock for long. Huge shoutout to IKEA. Their trays have been a game-changer for me! 

Another important point is to prep your material box in advance

I tell my agents to prepare their boxes the week before knocking. Do not wait until knocking day! You want to be ready and prepared. That way, nothing can throw you off your preparation game. At the very latest, you should be completely prepared the night before.

You also don’t want to waste time prepping during your prospecting time. You want to hit the ground running when it’s time! If you leave your preparation to your prospecting day, you may lose valuable time and hit fewer doors. 

There are a few different options for what to include and how to organize your box. I’ll mention all of the standard options on your checklist. You’ll also learn more about materials in Module 5. So it’ll make even more sense then.
